Commentary on John 6:1-13
What
happened in the passage of the Bible we are studying was not a scientifically
manipulated increase. The miracle was not achieved by economic indicators or
indices. It was not an increase caused by human efforts, it was an increase
that is called a miracle. And that is what you will experience this season in
Jesus name. Two schools of faith are identified in the passage, John 6: 5-9
which reads thus: ‘5: When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company
come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may
eat? 6: And this he said to prove him: for he himself
knew what he would do. 7: Philip answered him, Two
hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them
may take a little. 8: One of his disciples, Andrew,
Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, 9: There is a
lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are
they among so many?
Philips
who had been with Christ, who had seen many mighty works wrought by Him, still
could not believe that apart from performing miracles upon the sick, that
Christ also possessed the power to cause a supernatural supply for their
immediate bodily needs. Christ is concerned about your health and is determined
to make you of sound mind, so also He is concerned about your everyday needs. He
is interested in providing for you adequately. It’s time for you to remove from
your mind that negative thing that you may have read in some books, watched on television,
that mentality which suggests to you that you must be connected to those at the
top before you also can break even in life. All the above negative state of
mind will only suggest to you that you cannot come out of your present negative
position financially.
I can tell you without mincing words that they are lies of the devil. Philips said: ‘200 denarii worth of bread would never be
enough to feed that multitude’. He totally removed the possibility of a miracle
by that statement, for he knew that such money was not available and that even
if it were available, still it would never be enough. He had no faith at all or
we may say that his heart failed to believe that a miracle was possible in the
midst of overwhelming want. But in spite of his lack of faith, because he
remained in the company of Christ, he partook in that supply of the bread of
heaven. Another school of faith that we can infer from the passage is that of
Andrew, another disciple of Christ who started well for having the boldness to
say that a lad was having 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes in spite of the fact
that he saw the large crowd which must suggest to him that such a limited
supply would never save the day.
But in the end, he failed to continue to believe that a miracle could also occur from that supply, for he said, ‘There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?’ From this statement, we can conclude that Andrew had a half-baked faith. But because he also remained in the company of Christ, he partook in that miracle of supply alongside the multitude with the same level of faith who were with Christ. Therefore, my friend, we can deduce that our first key to receiving supernatural supply is to remain in fellowship in the company of Christ, when we partake in church programs as the word has said in Heb10.25a, ‘Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together’ and again the word says that where two or three are gathered together in my name, there i am in the midst of them (Matthew 18.20). if we comply to having fellowship with others in Christ's name, then we are better positioned to receive a miracle from HIM. ---- To be continued
