3 WAYS TO AVOID FALLING INTO SEXUAL TEMPTATIONS by Femi Obadun

WHAT MADE KING DAVID TO FALL INTO ADULTERY !

2 Samuel 11.1-3
I have studied the verses and brought out 3 avoidable actions that led king David to fall into adultery.The essence is for us to learn from it,adopt it and with the help of the Holy Ghost avoid falling into such acts.

1And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
² And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
³ And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?  2 Samuel 11.1-3

Please note the underlined word or phrase in the verses above that is : 'BUT' in verse 1,'WALKED UPON THE ROOF' in verse 2 and 'INQUIRED' in verse 3

1. WE MUST AVOID BEING IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME OR BEING IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME.
The word 'BUT' in the verse above indicates that King David ought not to be in his palace at that point in time.He had sent his subjects to war and the writer opined that he ought to be with his people in the battlefront,Of course in those days,kings used to go to battle.I believe it was God's will for them to go and battle against their enemies, but the king stayed behind.Whenever we fall short of doing God's will or fail to be with God's people in carrying out His assignment,it is a direct invitation of Satan to come and tempt
us.Many times, the Devil does not just tempt,he comes in whenever we create an opening for him,King David created an opening for the devil and so he fell into it's snare.
2. IF WE HAVE LEARNED HOW TO WALK, WE MUST ALSO LEARN HOW TO RUN
It was just a mere coincidence that as King David walked upon the roof top of his palace that he saw the wife of Urriah washing herself.Yes,many times we do not have control over what we see or hear,especially in this age of the internet.But we must always do one thing which the king refused to do.He walked on the roof top,saw what he did not plan to see but he refused to run out of the scene immediately,he must have taken his time to admire and re - admire the woman over and over again.This is where Joseph refused to fail as he was held in the hands of portiphars wife.He ran out of the atmosphere of sin and temptation.We must not hesitate to use physical means to escape sin wherever and whenever we find ourselves in its atmosphere.
3.WE MUST AVOID UNNECESSARY INQUIRIES OR USELESS TALKS
David sent again and made inquiry about the woman. That was another mistake he made.King David refused to remove the image of the woman from his mind,even though he had the power to do so.He settled down to learn more about her.We do not need to ask unnecessary questions about the opposite sex.And if we find ourselves engaged in conversation with the opposite sex,we must know the limit.We must avoid topics that could arouse sexual desires.We must avoid discourses that could encourage sin.The man may have seen a beautiful woman coincidentally or the woman may have met the rich man coincidentally,he or she is advised  not to make inquiries further,lest he or she is ensnared and then fall into temptations.
