MAGIC OR MIRACLES IN THE CHURCH TODAY by Femi Obadun

After Christ fasted for 40 days and 40 nights,he became so hungry that the devil suggested to him to turn stone into bread (Matthew 4.3). That was indeed a great temptation for Christ. The devil tried to turn an anointed person into a magician. In our world today, may purported servants of God are performing magic instead of real miracles and the only reason behind this is to deceive people into believing in them as powerful people and servants of the most high. The major motive behind this deception is to make money out of their victims, thus making themselves richer. Those who are called of God into his work on earth need not to impress anyone by reason of miracles, signs and wonders.Jesus says in Mark 16.17 thus 'And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues' The signs ought to follow those preachers who truly believe and are working in obedience to God's word.
I heard a story of a preacher who collected the prayer requests from worshipers and in their presence,he prayed and real fire fell and consumed the papers to the amazement of everyone. This is a clear example of magic and it is now happening live inside the church. Before now, magicians used to have a place where people would pay money to watch them performing magic, but nowadays,it has been brought right into the church.God still does signs and wonders,no doubt, but definitely not in the way and manner in which many portray them nowadays.
Now let me tell you something about miracles.God does not do miracles when they are not necessary.Christ was obviously hungry after much fasting and one would have thought it necessary for him to turn stone into bread. But alas,it was not necessary, there was no need for such a miracle! why? It is not recorded that Jesus had no access to normal food if he wanted it at that point.I am also very sure that his house or someone else's house, may be some of his disciples' houses were not so far from that wilderness.Which means he could easily have found normal food to eat.
When Christ had over 5,000 people whom he held down in the desert for many days because he was preaching the word of life to them, and he wanted to take care of their  hunger,he realized that only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes were available. At that point, obviously a miracle was needed and it did happen. When the Children of Israel were in the wilderness on their way from Egypt to Canaan, they were helpless and did need miracles all the way and God did not hesitate to give them miracles. But immediately they stepped in Canaan, the land that flows with milk and honey, those miraculous supplies ceased.God does not do unnecessary miracles!
In our lives today,if we realize that we find ourselves in a situation of hopelessness or helplessness,we should ask God for a miracle and he will surely do it.But if it is a matter that God sees that we can handle on our own,we may pray and fast for days, nothing would happen until we take a physical step to make it happen. Why did the devil want Jesus to perform an unnecessary miracle? The devil only wanted to dilute his anointing and distract him from the real calling. This evil  is happening to so many preachers today. In their bid to hold members down or win new ones, they have resorted into doing things which are not the usual practices of Christianity and which cannot find their roots in the scriptures.Let us be very careful, keep searching the scriptures and doing the right thing until the Lord comes.Shalom.
