According to Romans 12.11 which states thus 'Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;'
Believers are enjoined not to be 'slothful' in business.What business? Is the word referring to our day- to- day secular business to care for our needs or is it referring to God's business? In whatever direction you may look at it,the fact remains that God is interested in our day to day businesses as well as the work of the ministry that he has committed into our hands.Jesus says in Luke 2.49 thus" And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? And in Proverbs 22.29 the word says thus ' Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
Whether we are referring to our secular businesses or the works of the kingdom,the bible asks us not to be slothful in it.We can learn what it means to be slothful from the animal called 'sloth' shown in the picture below;
According to Wikipedia,Sloths seem slow and lazy at first and they make good habitats for other organisms.A single sloth may be home to moths, beetles, cockroaches, fungi, ciliates, and algae.
Paul the Apostle and the writer of the book of proverbs are in other words, telling us that for us to succeed in our businesses, either secular or God's works,we must be very busy and agile.We must be doing something at any point to contribute to the growth of our vision The reason why this animal called sloth plays host to beetles,moths,cockroaches, etc is because of it's inactivity.It sleeps a lot and could remain in one position for a long time.We must be fervent, otherwise the devil may take advantage of our slowness and then bring in other factors that may hamper our success.
We must be fervent in spirit at all times
